BIOGRAPHY:

I am gastrointestinal laparoscopic surgeon since 1990: I'm passionate to laparoscopic colon rectal surgery and also laparoscopic hepato biliary pancreatic surgery: everything safeguarding the Eras's principles.

Gianluca Garulli was born on 18 June 1962 in Bologna. He enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Bologna, academic year 1981-1982, and graduated on 03 April 1989 with honors.

On 22 June 1994 he graduated with honors from the School of Specialization in General Surgery of the I Clinica Chirurgica institution, directed by prof. Domenico Marrano.

From 04 April 1990 to 20 December 1994, he worked as visiting physician for the Division of General Surgery of the Hospital Maggiore in Bologna, directed by prof. Luciano Liguori.

From 01 June 1995 to 20 January 1996, he was visiting physician for the Division of General Surgery of the Hospital Maggiore in Bologna, directed by prof. Maurizio Spangaro

From 20 January 1996 to 30 September 2000, he worked as attending physician for the Local Health Unit of Bologna in the Division of General Surgery of the Hospital Maggiore in Bologna, directed by prof. Maurizio Spangaro.

From 01 October 2000 to 20 March 2006, he worked as attending physician in the Division of General Surgery at the hospital Infermi in Rimini, directed by Dr. Gianfranco Francioni.From 2002 to 2007, he was head of the Division of Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery at the hospital Infermi in Rimini.

From 20 March 2006 to present, he has been working as attending physician in the Division of General Surgery at the Department of General and Thoracic Surgery of the hospital Ceccarini in Riccione (part of the Local Health Unit of Rimini), directed by Dr. S. Artuso.

From 12 February 2007 to 31 December 2017 the has been head physician of the Department of General and Thoracic Surgery at the hospitals of Riccione and Cattolica, both part of the Local Health Unit of Rimini.

From 1 January 2018 to present he has been Head physician  of the Dept. Of General and advanced laparoscopic surgery of the Hospital Infermi  of Rimini.

He is a certified member of the Board of Medical Practitioners and Dentists of the city of Rimini

He is proficient both in written and spoken English (he earned a Threshold level English proficiency certification at the Wall Street Institute in Bologna), he has a basic knowledge of Spanish.

Professional experience

From 04 April 1990 to 31 December 2015 he performed and/or assisted on more than 10.530 abdominal, thoracic and vascular procedures, including emergency procedures.

From 12 April 1990 to 20 December 1994 he performed and/or assisted on 981 surgical procedures requiring general anesthesia, as part of the Division of General Surgery of the Hospital Maggiore in Bologna, directed by prof. Liguori

From 20 January 1996 to 30 September 2000 he performed and/or assisted on 1347 surgical procedures as part of the Division of General Surgery of the Hospital Maggiore in Bologna, directed by prof. Spangaro. He also performed 500 minor operations using local anesthesia.

From 01 October 200 to 31 January 2006 he performed and/or assisted on 2024 surgical procedures requiring general anesthesia in the Department of General and Emergency Surgery of the hospital of Rimini, directed by Dr. Francioni. In 226 of them he served as Supervising Physician, the surgeon responsible for the operating resident during the procedure.

Since 01 February 2006  to 31 december 2017 he has performed  more than 6000 procedures requiring general anesthesia, as Director of the Department of General and Thoracic Surgery of the hospitals of Riccione and Cattolica, both part of the Local Health Unit of Rimini. In 600 of them he served as Supervising Physician.

Professional experience with Laparoscopic and Thoracoscopic Surgery, Since 09 July 1991 he has been performing minimally invasive abdominal and thoracic surgery

He has performed and/or assisted on 501 thoracoscopic and laparoscopic procedures. He performed 315 of them before December 1994 as part of the Division of General Surgery of the Hospital Maggiore in Bologna, directed by prof. Luciano Liguori. He performed the remaining 186 procedures from January 1996 to September 2000, as part of the Division of General Surgery of the Hospital Maggiore in Bologna, directed by prof. Maurizio Spangaro.

From 01 October 2000 to 31 December 2005 he performed and/or assisted on 664 laparoscopic and thoracoscopic procedures requiring general anesthesia in the Department of General and Emergency Surgery of the hospital of Rimini, directed by Dr. Francioni.

From 2002 to 2007 he was the head of the Division of Advanced Laparoscopy at the Department of General Surgery in Rimini.

From 01 January 2006 to 31 December 2017 he performed and/or assisted on 4500 laparoscopic procedures requiring general anesthesia in the Department of General and Thoracic Surgery of the hospital of Riccione, part of the Local Health Unit of Rimini.

He has been a certified member of the European Association of Endoscopic Surgeons (E. A. E. S.) since 1994.

Teaching experience and lectures

He taught a course in Ophtalmology for the Nursing program of the hospital Maggiore in Bologna during the following academic years : 1990-1991 and 1991-1992.

He taught a course in Pharmacology for the Nursing program of the hospital Maggiore in Bologna for the academic year 1990-1991.

He taught a course in Surgical Pathology for the Nursing program of the hospital Maggiore in Bologna during the following academic years: 1993-1994 and 1994-1995.

In 1994 and 1995 he was part of the examination board during the Nurse licensure exam for the Nursing program of the hospital Maggiore in Bologna.

On 30 June 1994 he won a grant for one year™s research on breast cancer.

He was a keynote speaker at the 5th National Workshop on thyroid surgery held at the A.C.O.I. Thyroid Surgical Institute.

The second on the topic of: Malattie dell™ano: la malattia emorroidaria e i tumori dell™ano (anus diseases: haemorrhoidal disease and anal cancer).

On 23 November 2009 he was appointed to teach a course for the academic year 2009/2010 at the School of Specialization in Thoracic Surgery (University of Bologna) on the topic of Le malattie funzionali di interesse chirurgico esofago-gastriche (Functional gastroesophageal disorders), as part of the lesson plan on Disorders of the stomach, esophagus and duodenum.
